Programme – Rhythm of Waves – The best of desert and sea.

Day 1 – Marrakech  

We will meet at your hotel in Marrakech, and after an introduction, enjoy a sight seeing tour of Marrakech. You will visit some historical sites in the morning and after lunch explore the colourful medina and the famous place Jemaa El’ Fna with its snake charmers, acrobats and storytellers.

Day 2 – Marrakech to Ouarzazate 

We will leave Marrakech and drive south across the magnificent High Atlas Mountains and the col of Tizi-n-Tichka. We will stop for pictures along the way to enjoy the panoramic view and to capture some wonderful images of these spectacular mountain picks. In the afternoon, you will continue to one of the most impressive and well-preserved kasbahs and UNESCO world heritage site, the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou. You will visit this picturesque fortified village, which has been used as a film location in numerous famous films such as Prince of Persia, Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, Kundun, The Jewel of the Nile, and many more. It is an exciting place to explore with the camera.

Day 3 – Ouarzazate to Zagora

We will leave Ouarzazate, driving through mountainous wild landscapes, until we reach the first town in the Draa Valley called Agdez. We continue through the Draa Valley along the life-spending Draa River with its huge date palm oases. The Draa Valley once served as a link between the Sahara and the North of Morocco for the trading caravan routes that passed by the river for centuries. This part of Morocco is still preserved in term of traditional customs and way of life. You will have time to photograph the Saghro Mountains the oases of the valley and the quiet, rural life of the Berber people.

Day 4 – Zagora to M’hamid / Erg Lihoudi

In the morning you will have the opportunity to visit the weekly market (souk) in Zagora. It is a fascinating lively place of buying and selling everything a traditional household needs. After leaving Zagora, the landscapes become more and more deserted and arid. We drive one hour to the small village of Tagounite, where we will drive off-road to reach the windswept, small dunes of Erg Lihoudi. There will be enough time to explore the dunes with its special sand patterns that offer unique photo opportunities.

Day 5 – M’hamid

Today, we will enjoy the peaceful, small village of M’hamid and its quiet atmosphere. M’hamid is a village that is shaped by the harsh climate of the desert, the strong winds, and the incredible heat in the summer. This is a creative day to capture the essence of desert life, its people and nature. During the early morning hours and before the sunset, we will explore the beautiful, dunes of this area.

Day 6 – M’hamid to Chagaga Dunes

In M’hamid the paved road ends and from here you start an adventure of 60km off-road. The route passes different features of the desert: erg (sand dunes), reg (rocky desert), hammada (stony desert) and oases. The Chagaga sand dunes are far away from any civilization. It’s a mesmerizing place, where you can really feel the overwhelming tranquillity and expanse of the desert. The Chagaga sand dunes area is the largest dunes area in Morocco.

Day 7 – Chagaga Dunes to Tata

After breakfast, the track covers another 90km of desert with varying scenery; sand dunes, stony desert, and the dry lake Iriqui, until we reach the first village Foum Zguid. From here we drive to Tata along tarmac roads.

Day 8 – Tata to Sidi Ifni / Mirleft

Today we will drive through arid desert landscapes with small villages and some oasis until we reach Guelmin and later, after crossing small mountains, reach the Atlantic Ocean at Sidi Ifni. We continue in direction to Mirleft, where you will photograph the interesting, natural sea-worn rock archways at Legzira beach.

Day 9 – Mirleft to Akhfenir / Lagoon Khenifiss (Naila)

In the morning you will have another opportunity to photograph the archways in the soft morning light. After leaving Mirleft, we drive further south, along the Atlantic coast, to the small village of Akhfenir. From time to time, you will enjoy the view of the sea along the way. We will make stops, so that you can capture some images of the rocky cliffs and the empty beaches.

Day 10 – Akhfenir / Lagoon Khenifiss (Naila)

Today you will visit the beautiful, hidden away dunes of Lagoon Naila in the early morning hours and before sunset. These beautiful dunes, that almost look white on sunny days, are especially interesting in combination with the blue water of the lagoon and the sea. This peaceful place is also the habitat of a colony of Flamingos, beside many other seabirds.

Day 11 – Akhfenir to Sidi Ifni / Mirleft

In the morning, we will drive back along the coast road to Mirleft. You will have another opportunity to explore and photograph the archways at Legzira beach.

Day 12 – Mirleft to Essaouira

After breakfast, we will leave for Essaouira. The drive will be partially along the coast with beautiful view of the ocean. After arrival, we will explore Essaouira at the time of sunset.

Day 13 – Essaouira

The whole day will be a joyful exploration of this lovely city, the harbour and the beach and the colorful medina. Those who like to rest at the beach are free to enjoy the sun and some relaxation.

Day 14 – Essaouira to Marrakech

In the morning, you will have some more time to enjoy Essaouira, before we head back to Marrakech. After a final meeting and discussion on what we have learned on this photo tour, and sharing photos and stories, it is time to say “Good-by” or better “See you again”!
